12 Creative DIY Paper Crafts Using Finished Coloring Pages

Every parent and teacher knows the feeling: children love coloring, and within a few weeks you have a towering stack of finished coloring pages on the kitchen counter. Instead of recycling them or hiding them away in a folder, you can transform completed coloring sheets into memorable DIY paper crafts, home decorations, and handmade gifts.

1. Laminated Custom Bookmarks & Placemats

Cut narrow vertical strips (5 cm × 18 cm) from the most vibrant sections of a finished mandala or animal coloring page. Punch a hole at the top, thread a colorful yarn tassel through it, and laminate the strip for a durable bookmark. You can also laminate an entire A4 animal or dinosaur sheet to create a washable dinner placemat for toddlers.

2. Handmade 3D Pop-Up Greeting Cards

Have your child color a favorite animal, dragon, or floral illustration on 160 gsm cardstock. Carefully cut around the outer black contour with safety scissors. Fold a blank sheet of colored construction paper in half, cut two small parallel slits in the center fold to create a pop-up tab, and glue the colored cutout onto the tab for a custom birthday or thank-you card.

3. Festive Party Bunting & Classroom Garlands

Using a ruler and pencil, draw large triangles across several finished coloring pages and cut them out. Punch two holes along the top edge of each pennant and string them onto baker’s twine. Hang the garland across a classroom whiteboard, reading nook, or birthday party table.

4. Glowing Paper Lanterns (With LED Tea Lights)

Color a botanical or geometric pattern page using bright markers. Lightly brush the back of the paper with a drop of vegetable oil on a cotton pad—this makes standard 80 gsm paper semi-translucent like stained glass! Roll the sheet into a cylinder, tape the seam, and place a battery-operated LED tea light inside for a magical bedside lantern.

5. DIY Jigsaw Puzzles on Recycled Cardboard

Glue a finished coloring sheet flat onto the clean inside of an empty cereal box using a glue stick. Once dry, draw 12 to 24 interlocking puzzle shapes on the back and cut them out. Kids love solving a puzzle they colored themselves!
